I don't think that the terms "torrent" and "Torrenting" is much alien to us.

We are in the era of pirated movies, games and music. Internet has made the world more open and accessible. We can download almost any software, music,  video, games etc, etc that exists digitally.

All it takes today is some googling and then filter the results then choosing the right one.

If you have ever downloaded a movie or game from Internet or tried to do so. You must have encountered torrent files.

If you haven't then you have never downloaded a big file from Internet. Well not in this century.

So do you ever wonder what the heck is a torrent? Most of us don't care but if you are a veteran downloader or a budding tech kid then you must know about torrents.

Torrent is a method of downloading files using a distributed peer-to-peer file sharing system. Officially, it is called BitTorrent.

Simply, we can understand it as a bunch of computers sharing files in a super efficient system. As a user we don't need to be much technical.

When you download a file or start downloading it then the system, i.e BitTorrent provides your torrent client(like utorrent ) the file in different downloadable pieces. As soon as you have downloaded a piece you can start sharing it even if you haven't downloaded the full file.

But you might be still wondering what seeds and peers and leechers mean while downloading torrent files.

• All the file uploaders or those who share files are seeders.
• Leechers and peers are almost same. They are basically downloaders.
